FOFA Street Cleanup
FOFA is partnering with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy and the Gowanus BID Formation Effort on its next two events, this cleanup and City of Forest Day on October 3rd. Join Forth on Fourth Avenue for a trash pickup along 4th Avenue, meeting at 126 4th Ave (corner of Baltic). Gloves, bags, and trash grabbers provided. RSVP here.
Brooklyn Book Festival: Children's Day
Brooklyn Borough Hall and Plaza hosts a full day of readings, workshops, performances, and art projects for kids as part of the Brooklyn Book Festival. Festival Day for older readers follows on Sunday, September 27th. Free and open to all. See the full schedule here.
51st Annual Atlantic Antic
Brooklyn's oldest and largest street festival returns for its 51st year, with a mile of food, crafts, and entertainment from Hicks Street to Fourth Avenue. Three new dedicated kids' areas will be added this year and the "Antic Sing" competition returns with a new “decades” theme. Vendor applications are open through September 22nd. City of Forest Day
A neighborhood wide day of trash pickup and tree care, hosted by Forth on Fourth Avenue (FOFA), the Gowanus Canal Conservancy (GCC) and the Gowanus BID Formation Effort. Trash pickup runs 9 to 11:30AM, tree care runs 10AM to 1PM, meeting at the Greenspace on 4th Ave near Union St. RSVP for trash pickup here. Additional details and RSVP links coming soon.
The Alex House Project Autumn Benefit

Celebration of Life & Legacy Reception for Martin Sticht
The neighborhood is invited to a reception and buffet lunch at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Palm House, honoring longtime community gardener Martin Sticht. Known as a humble and frugal gardener, Martin left behind an estate supporting parks, education, health, civil rights, and humanitarian causes, including the Fresh Air Fund, the Police Athletic League, and of course the Hoyt Street Community Garden.
