The Hoyt Street Association
The Hoyt Street Garden was once a vacant lot filled with rubble. In the mid 1970s, a group of neighbors led by Hoyt Street resident Margaret Cusack transformed the space into a community garden.
The Hoyt Street Association helps care for and support the beloved Hoyt Street Garden, a shared green space for neighbors to relax, gather, and enjoy throughout the year. Through volunteer efforts and events like the Annual Plant Sale, the Association funds garden maintenance, neighborhood greening projects, and children’s programs.
Some of what we do together:
• Connect with neighbors and build community
• Support the garden and neighborhood greening efforts
• Help plan community events like the Annual Plant Sale, children’s story time, book giveaways, and holiday caroling

The Hoyt Street Association is a neighborhood group that began in1970. In 1975, the HSA created the Hoyt Street Garden, located at Hoyt Street and Atlantic Avenue, from a rubble strewn lot, in the 1980’s the Annual Plant Sale began as a way to raise funds to support the garden. This is an all-volunteer event and a great way to meet your neighbors.
Over the last 50 years, the Plant Sale volunteers have raised thousands of dollars that we have put back into the community with beautification efforts, tree plantings, maintenance of the Hoyt Street Garden, neighborhood activities and grants to local schools and other organizations.
We hope you will volunteer to help at the next Plant Sale held the last weekend of April or the first weekend in May at the garage of 110 Hoyt Street, on Pacific Street. No gardening experience is necessary. The volunteers are neighbors of all ages. Helping at the Plant Sale is a lot of fun! If you are interested, email htstplants@gmail.com in late March.

Grants of up to $1000 are given out to:
Encourage neighborhood cleanliness, orderliness, beautification or preservation
Improve public safety or quality of life
Support educational or cultural activities for our children
Promote harmony between diverse elements of the neighborhood
